What You Get Is What You Paid For

The thing in our life is that, we are filled with choices. We can choose to buy cheaper product, such as cheaper dresses, phone, house, flower and you name it, I am sure someone out there will offer to you, but the question is; what you are getting, would it be what you want?

Let me share with u a scenario that we encountered. We usually send out proposal to client and we would propose other optional items which would be “nice to have”. Prior to sending it out, we usually went through the details with the florist.

When we finally meet up and after going through the proposal, the mother of the bride (Name has been changed- Jane). Jane’s daughter in law – Kelly (Name has been changed) is based in oversea so I only spoke to Kelly via the phone and emails and only meet up with her when she’s home.

Jane: This proposal is way too high…
Me: Aunty Jane, I showed you this proposal because this is what Kelly wanted.
Jane: How can you expect us to pay when we have decided not to spend more than x amount (This would have been nice to know at the beginning by the way)
Me: Please let me know which area you would like us to cut down, we would be gladly to change it. How about changing the long table to round table, the design of the flowers, the type of flowers, the different container etc (I suggested her more than 12 options to the changes basically)
Jane: But this is all that Kelly wanted, why don’t you reduce your profit to make a little lesser?
Me: I am not quite sure about it.. let’s just put it this way, “you can always find something cheaper, but it will not be the wedding your daughter wants, it will be the price that you pay”

The reason of me sharing with you the above story is to educate the couples and ourselves in the wedding industry by not having the wrong perception. It’s easy to say that you want a “simple” centerpiece, “looks nice”, “smaller” or showing some flower inspiration via Pinterest and asked “I want this exactly the same and how much?”. The flower inspiration you took from Pinterest can only be inspiration and because there is no two flower can ever be the same. In our country, we may not have the same flower. If you opt for imported flower and rare flowers, the cost will definitely increase. Different type of flower in the bouquet may also contribute to price increment. We have worked in many occasions with flowers, grand centerpiece comes with abundant of flowers in it. Let me show you some sample of the visual,

Can every bride afford it? No but for those that value it, they seek floral designer to design for them. During the floral consultation, we would use this as an inspiration for the bride who loved the look but couldn’t pay for it. The bride can opt for something cheaper, however, please bear in mind that the structure of the centerpiece will be vastly different in terms of height, size, amount of flower, type of flower and the design. The feeling is certainly not the same but it’s a cheaper flower.

Is the white phalaenopsis cheaper than roses? No. Is the pink peony cheaper than pink eustoma? No. Is the feeling the same? No, but is the price cheaper? Yes. Please bear in mind, if you are visiting any flower vendor, and if the vendor is telling you that you can pay a few hundred lesser than the other, this could mean you are probably getting the flower installation with a lot of foliage than the flowers or few inches centerpiece on a 72 inches round table of 12.
